August 9, 2016 Calvin Riley, a pitcher for the 2016 Menlo Park Legends and Delta Junior College, was killed Saturday in an apparent random act of gun violence. Initial reports of police investigations into the circumstances of Riley's death, which occurred around 10pm Saturday night in San Francisco's Aquatic Park near Ghirardelli Square, indicate no apparent motive or suspect in the shooting. View coverage of the investigation here. The news of Riley's murder comes as a shock to those who played alongside or against him this summer in the CCL. "The Legends lost a great player and an even better teammate," said David Klein, Riley's manager this summer in Menlo Park. "He was a favorite coach at our youth camps, where he would have been again this week working with our campers. Those of us fortunate to have known and played with Calvin have lost a dear friend and an amazing human being." The Legends will be honoring Calvin’s life throughout this year and before every home game during the 2017 summer season. A donation site has been setup to assist his family with the funeral costs.
