Halos Sweep DH Against the Blues; Foresters and Legends and Arkansas Hitters Play HR Derby

| June 19, 2016

June 19, 2016 Ventura, CA The Ventura Halos swept a doubleheader over the San Luis Obispo Blues today at Ventura College, winning the early game 2-0 and the second game 9-6. A complete game, seven inning shutout by Adisson Pelupessy was the story of the first game. Pitching in the first game of a doubleheader which, by league rule, is limited to seven innings, Pelupessy scattered five hits and struckout seven, and got all the offense he and the Halos needed when Matthew Waldren (Tennessee) hit a two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning to drive in the only runs of the game. See the boxscore/recap of Game 1 here. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Halos got RBI from seven different hitters and, with a five-run sixth inning that erased a 6-4 Blues lead, Halo relievers Brandon Ward, who picked up the win, and Taylor Campos (Ventura JC) , who earned the save, held the Blues scoreless over the last three innings to secure the sweep. See the boxscore/recap of Game 2 here. Also in the CCL today: Santa Barbara, CA The Menlo Park Legends and the Santa Barbara Foresters combined for a total of eight home runs in a wild series finale between the two teams today at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in which the Legends overcame an early 8-3 third inning deficit with seven unanswered runs to take a 10-8 lead by the end of six and a half innings and then only to have that lead overrun by the Foresters eight unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings for a final score of Santa Barbara 16, Menlo Park 10. Without question the long ball figured prominently in today's game. Not only did the Legends hit three home runs and the Foresters five, but both teams had back-to-back home run combinations and, then, as the final topper of the game, the Foresters' Lex Kaplan (Tulane), Bret Boswell (Texas) and Hunter Williams (Tulane) had back-to-back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning. See the boxscore/recap here. Compton, CA Ernie de la Trinidad homered and Adonis Morrison (UC Riverside) and Sam Shaikin (Valparaiso) had two RBI each as the Academy Barons won their fourth game in a row 10-2 over the Long Beach Legends. Kyle Murray started the game and picked up the win by allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out six in five innings of work. See the boxscore/recap here. La Mirada, CA The Conejo Oaks beat the Southern California Catch for the second day in a row, winning 7-6 today on the backs of two Arkansas Razorbacks. Chad Spanberger and Jake Arledge between them drove in every one of the seven Oaks runs today, Arledge driving in four and Spanberger three. Trailing 6-2 after seven innings, the Arkansas connection came through big for the Oaks. In the top of the eighth Spanberger hit a two-run home run to cut the Catch's lead to 6-4 and, then, in the ninth inning, Arledge hit a home run of his own, a three-run shot that proved to be the game winner. It was also Arledge's second home run of the game. Batting in the leadoff position, he led the game off with a solo blast. See the boxscore/recap here.
