June 18, 2017 Santa Barbara, CA Blair Henley (Texas) threw six scoreless innings with five strikeouts, John McMillon (Texas Tech) recorded all six outs of his two innings of pitching via the strikeout, and Evan Lee (Arkansas) faced the minimum three batters in a scoreless ninth to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 3-1 victory over the Academy Barons today at Pershing Park. The only scoring blemish to the Foresters pitching line came when McMillon walked the first batter he faced, Randy Rubio (Marymount), who advanced around the bases on a hit batsmen and a pair of passed balls. But then McMillon dialed in and struck out the next six batters he faced. Henley was just as unhittable today, allowing only four baserunners in his six innings, one each on a walk and a reached-on-error, and the other two by isolated doubles by Hunter Allen (Alabama St) in the second inning, and by Javier Garcia (Compton JC) in the sixth. Kyle Marinconz (Cal Poly) doubled and scored on a single by Joshua Jung (Texas Tech) in the first, David Hamilton (Texas) tripled home a run in the second, and Austin Todd (Texas) tripled and scored on a Marinconz single in the fifth to account for the Foresters runs. Click here for recaps of this game La Habra, CA Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) doubled home the tying run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and then scored the go-ahead run on an outfield error as the Southern California Catch prevailed 3-2 today in what turned out to be a staff pitching duel with the Long Beach Legends at Biola University. Catch starting pitcher Tayton Smith (Azusa Pacific) threw five scoreless innings, and his counterpart, Legends starter Josh Aguilar, who had six strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball, kept the game tight before turning it over to the bullpens. Four Catch relievers combined to limit Long Beach to two runs, both of which got on base via walks, one scoring on an RBI-double by Tommy Anderson (Doane) in the sixth inning, the other on a RBI-single by Grant Gamble (Azusa Pacific) in the eighth. The two relievers for Long Beach were just as stingy, allowing only two earned runs, one run scored by Anthony Seminaris (Arkansas Ft. Chiramonte was the ninth hitter to come to bat in the sixth inning for Ventura and his three RBI double came on the heels of an RBI-single by Dayton Provost (Canyons JC), an RBI-double by Armet Johnson (Cal St. LA) and an RBI-ground out. Up until that point the Halos had been dominated by the pitching of San Luis Obispo starter Austin Dondaville (Cal Poly), who struck out nine and allowed only three baserunners in five innings of work. But as soon as Dondaville was replaced by a reliever, Ventura pounced. Provost finished the game with two hits, Christian Jones (Washington) had two RBI and Chiramonte’s three RBI led the Halos attack.
